Heartstones:
Not a lot has happened over the last few days with Heartstones, in writing terms anyway. I think I'm still getting over my mopey patch. I keep drifting into dark places at the moment and because of it writing keeps getting put to the side. I'm feeling better though so I'll be getting back on track with this soon enough I'm sure!
Mr (lol I said "my" then! 0_o) Hawk has read Heartstones. I do'nt know where he's up to or if he's finished it even! But he's told me some very good things about it and gave me a lot of pointers to look for when writing in general.
He told me some very useful things, that I know wil help me and I'll develop even further because of it. I'm dreading to think what my doctor who graphic novel was like last year! Not in content but in the way it's written! That was the first one I ever did so it'l be interessting to look back on it and see what it was like. Plus it'll show how I've developed as a writer!
I know I've developed recently. Although I'd personally say it was more noticable in my drawings! It's no longer stick figures, I can actually cobble together face and shoulders. :D
But back onto writing. :P
I've worked out different formats and just write all the time. I lost my notepad today and I honestly didn't know what I'd have done if I hadn't found it!
I think that just proves how addicted I am to writing in general, and I know that in four years time I will be a very different writer because I'll have a degree in it!

Target audience research
The showcomotion film festival is a film festival that’s primary audience is young people. This means that the classification of my film that I should aim for is either a U or PG. In order for my film to be shown at the film festival it needs to have gained a BBFC certificate and in order for me to know what kind of things I should be looking at in order to gain that certificate.
U means universal and basically means that it has to be suitable for all. You have to be careful when addressing issues such as violence or suggestive content because it’s not always that suitable for younger audiences. This means that when I write my script I should take into consideration what things may not be suitable for a younger audience. However just because it may be aimed at younger audiences doesn’t mean that it would have that many restrictions on it. I’m not someone who wants to go out and make something that has frequent sex or drugs references so this isn’t a particular problem for me. But by having a film classified as a U does mean that there would be certain restrictions on terms such as violence, language and suggestive content because it’s not going to be suitable for a younger audience. It doesn’t mean I have to necessarily aim my film at younger children, it just means that I have to consider a way of making something that would be suitable for everyone watching the film.
The following quote is taken from the BBFC website. The page explains everything about what the U classification allows and I think this is a useful part of my research into the target audience because it states what should and shouldn’t be in a U film.
The quote below is taken from the BBFC website and explains about the classification of a U film. It gives good advice about what should and shouldn’t be in a film that’s classified a U and helped me when I was trying to come up with an idea that may be suitable for a younger audience.
Quote taken from: http://www.sbbfc.co.uk/categories_u
“The ‘U’ Category
The ‘U’ symbol stands for ‘Universal’. A ‘U’ film should be suitable for audiences aged four years and over. However, it is impossible to predict what might upset a particular child, especially at this lower end of the category range.
What about works for children younger than four?
DVD works aimed at very young viewers, such as 'Chuggington', 'Teletubbies' or 'In The Night Garden', are classified ‘U’ but carry Consumer Advice which states ‘Particularly Suitable for pre-school children’. They should raise no significant issues in terms of discrimination, drugs, horror, imitable behaviour, language, nudity, sex, theme or violence.
Will there be any bad language in a ‘U’ film?
At the ‘U’ category, we only allow very mild bad language (eg ‘damn’ and ‘hell’). Occasionally, bad language such as ‘bloody’ or ‘bugger’ may be included, where justified by the context.
Do ‘U’ works contain any sexual activity?
Characters may be seen kissing or cuddling and there may be references to sexual behaviour (ie to ‘making love’). However, there will be no overt focus on sexual behaviour, language or innuendo.
Is violence or horror permitted in a ‘U’ film?
A ‘U’ film may include brief fight scenes or moments where characters are placed in danger. However, moments of emotional stress or threat will be quickly resolved and the outcome will be reassuring. There may be brief scary scenes and moments where the characters are placed in danger. As with violence, however, these scenes will be balanced by reassuring elements, such as comic interludes or music. “
The other classification that I could get for my film is a PG. This stands for Parental Guidence and is still aimed at children, however the aim is for slightly older children and I think that there are slightly less restrictions on it in terms of what you can do for content. The below quote is taken from the BBFC website again and explains what can and can’t be put into a PG film. The following information is taken from the same website as before, the only difference being that it’s about a PG film rather than a U film.
Quote taken from: http://www.sbbfc.co.uk/categories_P G
“Are all ‘PG’ films made for younger audiences?
No. Some films, such as documentaries, are given a ‘PG’ certificate but have not been made with a young audience in mind. However, the certificate means that any issues in the work are appropriate for the majority of this age group and nothing should upset a child of eight or over.
What sort of themes are passed at ‘PG’?
No theme is prohibited at ‘PG’, as long as it is treated in a manner appropriate to the category. ‘PG’ works can explore challenging issues such as domestic violence, bereavement or racism.
In a ‘PG’ work, illegal or antisocial behaviour, such as bullying, will not be condoned or seen to go unchallenged. Smoking and drinking will not be promoted or glamorised and if child characters are seen smoking or drinking, there should be a clear message that this is bad. If drugs are mentioned or seen, a ‘PG’ work should emphasise that they are harmful.
Will there be bad language in a ‘PG’ film?
There may be mild bad language (such as ‘shit’ or ‘son of a bitch’) in a ‘PG’ film, but the context and delivery are always important. For example, if the language is used aggressively or if there is too much bad language, a work may be passed at the next category.
What about sex?
References to sex are acceptable if the activity talked about or shown is implied and lacking in detail. In addition, if a child is unlikely to understand a reference, we may allow it at ‘PG’.
What about violence or horror at ‘PG’?
There should be no detail of violence in a ‘PG’ work, so while there might be some blood, we would not see how the injury was inflicted. Violence is generally more acceptable in a historical or fantasy setting, because of the distancing that this provides.
As far as horror goes, we allow some 'jump' moments and scary scenes, but sequences showing significant or realistic violence, horror or threat must not be prolonged.
What about behaviour children might copy?
Potentially dangerous behaviour which children might copy (such as a child climbing into a washing-machine or playing with electricity) is unlikely to be acceptable at ‘PG’, especially if it comes across as safe or fun. Realistic or easily accessible weapons, such as knives, will not be glamorised or focused upon in a ‘PG’ work.
Will there be any drugs in a ‘PG’?
There might be innocuous or passing references to illegal drugs or drugs misuse in a ‘PG’ work, although there should be no strong focus on this. In addition drug references may be permissible if there is a clear anti-drugs or educational message likely to be understood by children over eight.”
The research I have done about these specific certificates have helped me know the kind of things that are suitable for children. For example within a U you can have some kind of violent scene in it but if you have reassuring consequences and the violence isn’t too graphic then it’d be okay to use it because it wouldn’t upset younger viewers. I have also found it interesting researching into a target audience that I haven’t necessarily looked at before I much detail and it’s helped me to understand more about this aspect to target audiences.

I'm going to Grimsby tomorrow. For those of you who live in the UK you're probably thinking "why on earth is she going there?!" but the answer is, it does this brilliant writing course.
It's my number one choice for uni courses and I really hope that it goes well tomorrow. My future is becomming clearer and clearer, this time tomorrow I think I'll know exactly what it is I need to.
It's either going to be that I'm so happy I won't be able to stop being hyper, or I'll be miserable.
Well maybe not, Captain Kaz will cheer me up if the worst happened!
I'm nervous, excited and everything else that I just can't describe. It's been a very odd week (for me emotionally anyway) and my emotions have been all over the place since Monday. One moment I'm fine and the next I feel terrible, so I'm hoping that, with my current state of mind and ability to change moods at the click of a finger that it goes well.
I'm pretty certain it will.
I think the hardest part will be choosing which stories to take, which I've sort of done now anyway hahha. :D
Alls well that ends well. :D

AN: The first part here is complete freewriting, there is a very big chance that I may go back and add more. :D But for now I'm so excited I decided I'd post it! :D:D:D:D:D:D

To me, there's a few things that need to be said about the characters for the story here: http://beres-ford.livejournal.com/24619 4.html#cutid1 not a lot of course, but I thought I'd post it anyway! :D
Dectective Jackson. J. Hawk
Yes it's another Jack! :D But it rings well with the character. I imagined him to be english. :P Very much like a rugged, dark, tall bloke (possibly a little bit like David Tennant as D.I, Carlilse! but that's just me! :D)
He's moved over to New York from England to get a fresh start, gained a job with the police and is now a detective. :D
Did you honestly think I wasn't going to go for a sherlock holmes thing with him?:D
He's really not Sherlock Holmes! :P
Crimson Posy:
Like I said in my authours note, I don't actually know where she came from. She was orignially going to be called something else Posy, it's written in my notebook but I don't remember exactly what!
But yeah, she's a clear feminist. I'm sure you can probably tell that from the way she talks about how she doesn't want to get married yet in the first chapter. I didn't want to go for the sterotype of a 1920s flapper either, I just wanted a strong female character and I think within the last half an hour I've managed to create that with Crimson.
I can do the flappers later on in the story. :D
The setting:
1920s new york. This obviously hasn't been established yet, we've not had the time in the story to explore the well being of 1920s New York. But there may well be a few flappers hanging around here and there I promise! :D
Speaking of flappers... I betetr go and do a bit more research on the 1920s! :D
After all, it was supposedly a very dry period of time now wasn't it?

Heartstones:
I was going to wait until next monday like I normally do but the truth is I'm far too excited today. Kathryn and I went to the LRC (again! :D It's normal for us!) after lessons yesterday and instead of doing the work intended (which again is fine because neither of us know whether we have to hand it in hahaha) we started talking about Heartstones.
We were talking about various things but I think the largest and most important factor of this dicussion was the ending. The problem we're having coming up with something is rather... odd. Before we could talk about ideas and know exactly which ending to use but this time I think we're just a little bit stumped!
I'm hoping that during the next few months something will happen and we'll just know.
At least that's what I'm hoping! Otherwise we'll get to the end and spend another three hours deciding what could happen...
ahhh I love our talks. :D Even if it takes three hours to get somnewhere (although granted the first two of that was spent debating over whether two characters should do something!) we got there in the end!

Heartstones:
Heartstones like I mentioned before has just developed. And it's done it again. Within the space of two hours tonight, the whole of the beginning of Heartstones has changed. Not in terms of what happens, it's just the situation is slightly different and in my opinion is better because of it. :D
That all depends on whether I actually get time to edit it of course, but I think that I should definetly try and make the whole thing a lot darker. And now as I progress into the writing of V3 I think that's exactly what's going to happen. I have a few things up my seleve that I know people won't expect it.
Because I didn't. :P
We saw A Chirstmas Carol today. :D In 3D! And that was great, but we were able to invision victorian streets and people. It was very inspiring for both Kathryn and I when we were watching it, and hence why the beginning has changed slightly.
I like stories that have twists and turns, it's so much fun to write.
We also had a massive conversation about another story with someone the other day, and afterwards we wound up talking about the mythology of Heartstones. It's gotten very interessting and things are beginning to make sense. It was so nice to see soemone else so infatuated by they're own story world though, both Kathryn and I walked out the room feeling so much more optomistic and encouraged that this may well be something that never leaves us.
It seems we're only just beginning on this project. We're only just beginning in life really as well, we're studying really hard at the moment. Hence why I only seem to update this blog with writing updates at the moment, and going to university next September. :D
And I'm really enjoying the ride of this graphic novel. It's the best! :D

Your result for The Harry Potter Husband Test...
Mrs. Longbottom
Your perfect HP man is Neville Longbottom.

You like the nice guy. You don't need the best looking guy, or the most talented, or the most popular, or the most powerful. You want a guy who'll be there when you need him, who knows how to stick through the hard times, who isn't afraid to do what needs to be done, and who stands up to even his friends when necessary. You can't go wrong with a guy like this.

I posted a few months ago about how I'd decided that I wasn't going to do any more fanfictions. This still stands, but it was only ass I was looking at some of my old stuff that I relised that I had a few reviews and I never knew about them. I don't know how or why, but for some reason the review people have left me (particulary on fanfiction.net) didn't get to me.
So I would just like to thank everyone who's read my stories and reviewed or just read them in general (Captain Kaz and my Dad springs to mind especially here! :P I just needed to credit that!) Writing isn't about getting a load of reviews, because in my opinion if you get just one that's good and useful then that's the best feeling in the world because you actually learn from it. Although any kind of comment is lovely. :P
I was looking at one of the reviews very randomly earlier today and I was quite overwhealmed with the response I got (especially for My Fairytale, I was very shocked with that.) I'm very touched by it all and the fanfictions will always have a special place in my writing career.
It started out as something I just enjoyed, and I still love but it's developed into more of a passion now. It's not just that though, it's my career, I'm more serious. More serious than I ever have been about it and I mean it when I say thankyou for all the support people have given me over the last couple of years. Even if it's just by looking at it and telling me you like it, it encouraged me to carry on and now here I am writing a graphic novel, about to go and study writing at university (next september), and planning of writing an actual novel. Not Doctor Who, but that's okay. I've moved on from fanfictions because I needed to. I've got ideas of my own now and I love it.
So yes, thankyou to everyone for any kind of encouragement, constructive critism, or just general help over the last four years is bascially what I'm trying to say. Without that kind of encouragement I'd have given it up and gotten nowhere. :)

Heartstones:
Well what can I say about Heartstones?
In the last month somethings happened. There are four things that were running into this and has made it happen.
1. Giving Heartstones to someone (a friend of mine and Mr Hawk) so they could read it.
2. Getting the worries aside for both Kathryn and I.
3. Making the website
4. Developing it further on Saturday/Sunday with Kathryn.
All of these small things has led for both Kathryn and I to feel like we've made a massive leap. I don't understand why little things like this can make such a big leap. Heartstones isn't a project that I've been blathering on about for months and just doing it for fun. It's changed into something much bigger than that and Kathryn and I are both so excited about doing this project for real.
It's a real story, with real characters and we're loving it. :D
In terms of my writing, it's just leaped again. I don't know why, but it's turned into this very tense and dramatic script about a group of people who are meant to save the world. It plays with human emotions and has a supernatural twist in it. :P
What more could I ask to write?
General:
Not much to report really. I've been focusing so much on college and heartstones that I haven't had time to write anything else really. But oh well!
I shall do soon!

The artist of Heartstone Odyssey (who is also my best friend :D Cactus_smollet on lj and Radioactive Weasel on Deviant I think) and I had a sleepover last night. We've known each other for a year and we've never done that before so that was all very exciting.
We dicussed, wrote and draw bits of Heartstones from the end of volume two. Parts of it is inspired by the animation film Anastasia and we both did a prompt athon from it. :D It was very good fun.
But we both agreed that our finest work came from it, and well I can't wait to end to see how Kathryn draws this. The skecthes and little pictures she did earlier look fantastic and I know (one picture in particular) will look brilliant when it's coloured in and is part of the comic for real.
I can't wait.
So other than that we went trick or treatng (whcih is something I don't do particulary often, my mothers never been that fond of it but it was fun dressing up as a pirate!)and going very hyperm flopping in the middle of the Dark Knight and just generally having a good time we've not done anything else. :D
It's been great, I can't wait to scan the pictures in so I can write it. :P It's suprising how much you forget! :P
My destroyers short story that I did for an half an hour writing challenge the other week is going to be made into a small comic. It's official, Kathryn loved it and sugessted it and I know she's got a point. So I'm going to do it. :D
I'll write that soon. We've got a lot of other little work for it to do. You see if anything, Heartstone Odyssey has shown me so much.
I love it.
Should I type and upload the promptathons from last night? They might be quite good as little standalone stories.

It seems to be that my life is completely controlled through work at this moment in time. Which is fine, I'm quite happy to do that at the moment.
But the thing is, it's all working towards University and I need to ask myself where I'm going to wind up after all this work.
Grimsby or Cambridge?
I haven't got a clue!
